Learn how receipts differ from transaction confirmations based on the information they contain.
If you’re running an A-Thon or Auction on RallyUp, you may note that the View Donations* page lets you view both receipts and transaction confirmations:

How-to: Export Donation and Donor Reports
*Terminology may differ according to Campaign settings.
What is the difference between receipts and transaction confirmations?
Receipts show all credit card charges that were made during a specific transaction, like Raffle entry or Storefront item purchases.
Transaction confirmations show all transaction activity, even those that are not associated with immediate credit card charges, like A-Thon pledges or Auction bids.
What’s an example of receipts vs. transaction confirmations?
Imagine that a donor is enthusiastic about a cause and excited to participate in all the fundraising components available. The donor purchases a Raffle entry and a Storefront item, bids on an Auction item, and makes an A-Thon pledge.
In this scenario, their receipt would show:
- The Raffle entry purchase
- The Storefront item purchase
Their transaction confirmation would include:
- The Raffle entry purchase
- The Storefront item purchase
- The A-Thon pledge
- The Auction bid
Later, when the A-Thon has ended, the donor will receive a receipt for the final A-Thon pledge amount. If they win the Auction item, they will receive a receipt for the final Auction bid amount.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do donors automatically receive both receipts and transaction confirmations?
Yes, RallyUp automatically sends receipts for immediate credit card charges and transaction confirmations for all campaign activity. Donors receive these via email after completing their transaction.
Are transaction confirmations tax-deductible?
Only receipts can be used for tax deduction purposes since they document actual credit card charges. Transaction confirmations show activity like pledges and bids that haven’t been charged yet, so they cannot be used for tax purposes.
When will A-Thon donors receive their final receipt?
Donors receive a receipt for their A-Thon pledge amount after the A-Thon Campaign ends and their pledge is processed. This receipt shows the final charge and can be used for tax purposes.
If a donor loses an Auction bid, do they still get a transaction confirmation?
Yes, the transaction confirmation shows all Auction bid activity, whether the donor wins or loses. However, donors only receive a receipt if they win an Auction item and are charged for their winning bid.
Can I resend receipts or transaction confirmations to donors?
Yes, you can view and resend both receipts and transaction confirmations from the View Donations page in your Campaign dashboard. This is helpful if donors need duplicate copies for their records.
What information appears on a receipt vs. a transaction confirmation?
Receipts show payment details including the charge amount, payment method, date, and items purchased. Transaction confirmations show all activity including pledges, bids, and purchases—even those not yet charged to a credit card.
