Keep more of the pot

You don’t have to give away half. Set 60/40, 70/30, or your own percentage.

Why run a 50/50 Raffle instead of a prize Raffle?

Your fundraiser creates the prize

No donated vacation to track down. No gift basket to build. No expensive item to buy before you raise a dollar.

In a 50/50 Raffle, supporters purchase entries and the money raised becomes the cash prize. One share goes to the winner. The remaining share supports your organization.

Launch without a prize budget

The cash pot is funded by the fundraiser itself, so your team can get started without purchasing a prize or waiting for a sponsor.

Build excitement with every entry

As more supporters buy entries, the displayed prize grows. Everyone can see what is at stake and has a reason to enter before the drawing closes.

What is a 50/50 Raffle?

A 50/50 Raffle, also known as a split-the-pot Raffle, jackpot Raffle or cash Raffle, is a fundraiser in which supporters purchase entries and the funds raised become the prize. Here is how the traditional version works.

50/50 Raffle: how the split works

If your organization sells 1,000 entries at $5 each, the Raffle raises $5,000. With a traditional 50/50 split, the winner receives $2,500 and your organization keeps $2,500. Sell 2,000 entries at the same price and both sides double to $5,000.

How much can a 50/50 Raffle raise?

It depends on three things you control: how many people you reach, what you charge per entry, and how visibly the pot grows. Here is the shape of what organizations typically see.

If you reach And they average The Raffle raises Your cause keeps (50/50)
200 guests at one event $15 in entries $3,000 $1,500
1,200 attendees over a weekend $15 in entries $18,000 $9,000
2,000 supporters over several weeks $25 in entries $50,000 $25,000

*Figures are illustrative. Actual results depend on your audience, entry pricing, and promotion.

50/50 Raffle FAQs

What is a 50/50 Raffle?

A 50/50 Raffle is a fundraiser in which supporters purchase entries for a chance to win part of the funds raised. In the traditional version, 50% of the applicable proceeds goes to the winner and the other 50% goes to the organization. It is also called a cash Raffle, jackpot Raffle, or split-the-pot Raffle.

Are Raffle entries the same as Raffle tickets?

Yes. Entries and tickets describe the same thing: one chance to win. RallyUp uses the term entries, and a supporter who buys a 10-entry bundle has the equivalent of 10 paper Raffle tickets. RallyUp can track online entries and paper tickets in the same Raffle.

Does the prize have to be split 50/50?

No. RallyUp’s Enhanced 50/50 Raffle lets you choose a different cash-prize percentage — 60/40, 70/30, or your own split — subject to the laws and regulations that apply to your organization and Raffle.

Can a 50/50 Raffle have more than one winner?

Yes. You can draw one or multiple cash-prize winners. When you select multiple winners, RallyUp divides the prize percentage evenly among them. For example, if 50% of the applicable proceeds is allocated to the prize and you select two winners, each receives 25%.

How much should you charge for 50/50 Raffle entries?

Most organizations price their lowest 50/50 Raffle entry level between $1 and $20, then add bundles that offer more entries per dollar. A lower entry price widens participation; bundles raise the average purchase. On RallyUp you can create multiple entry levels and adjust them before your Raffle opens.

How much can a 50/50 Raffle raise?

It depends on entry price and participation, and the arithmetic is simple to project. At $5 per entry, 1,000 entries raise $5,000, of which $2,500 goes to your organization under a traditional 50/50 split. Because the prize grows with every entry, larger audiences tend to compound rather than plateau.

Can we offer a cash prize and traditional prizes together?

Yes. You can enable both a cash Raffle and a prize Raffle in the same RallyUp Campaign, giving supporters more than one way to participate.

Does RallyUp automatically update the jackpot?

Yes. RallyUp calculates and displays the cash prize on your Campaign page and updates it as entries are purchased. Applicable payment-processing fees are subtracted from the displayed amount, so the figure supporters see reflects the prize available to the winner.

Does RallyUp send the cash prize to the winner?

No. RallyUp can select your winner, but your organization must collect the funds and distribute the appropriate cash prize. This helps your organization manage the funds according to the legal requirements that apply to its Raffle.

Can we sell 50/50 Raffle entries online and in person?

Yes, with limits. RallyUp lets organizations manage both online and paper Raffle entries in one Raffle. However, nine states do not currently permit the online sale of Raffle entries: Alabama, California, Hawaii, Indiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Utah, and Washington. These restrictions apply regardless of which fundraising platform you use, so your organization must confirm which sales methods are permitted where it operates. See Raffle laws by state and see if you’re eligible to run a Raffle.

How much does it cost to run a 50/50 Raffle with RallyUp?

Free pricing has no Platform Fee and does not require a contract or subscription. Supporters are offered an optional contribution to RallyUp at checkout and may receive discounted bonus entries in exchange, and Free pricing Raffles require a 10-entry minimum on the lowest entry level. Organizations that prefer not to request supporter contributions can choose Flex pricing, which applies a 6.9% Platform Fee to Raffle entry purchases and has no entry minimum. Standard payment-processing fees apply on both plans. See current pricing.

Can RallyUp build our 50/50 Raffle for us?

Yes. RallyUp’s Done-for-You service can help plan, create, optimize, or complete your Campaign. For Campaign creation, a fundraising expert can prepare custom images, copy, branding, and your primary Raffle setup.

Are 50/50 Raffles legal in every state?

No. Raffle laws vary significantly by state and locality, and they change frequently. In the United States, only registered 501(c) organizations may run charity Raffles. Nine states do not permit the online sale of Raffle entries at all, and other jurisdictions require licenses, permits, or registrations, or impose specific requirements on how Raffle proceeds and cash prizes are handled. Start with Raffle laws by state and see if you’re eligible to run a Raffle.

Your organization is responsible for confirming that it is eligible and that its entry sales, prize structure, permits, drawing process, and distribution of funds comply with every applicable requirement.

RallyUp does not provide legal advice or determine whether an individual Raffle is legally compliant.

Is a 50/50 Raffle the same as a sweepstakes?

No. A Raffle generally requires supporters to purchase entries, while a sweepstakes generally must provide a free method of entry. RallyUp’s 50/50 cash-prize structure is available only for Raffles and cannot be used for Sweepstakes. Read more on Raffles vs. sweepstakes.
